When Eating Hurts: A Family's Journey with ARFID and SPD
What if food was never just food?
This book is a thirteen-year journey through Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), and anxiety, within the broader experience of neurodivergence, told through my perspective as both a mother and a clinician.
Across these years, you will see:
• early signs that are easy to miss
• feeding challenges that go far beyond “picky eating”
• the emotional reality behind ARFID
• school struggles, anxiety, and changing needs
• the experience of navigating systems that do not always understand
• how diagnoses come into focus over time
• what it means to support a child without losing connection or trust
Our Way to Licensing: Unlocking Success and Securing the Optimal Job
The path to licensure is demanding. It does not have to be lonely, confusing, or overwhelming.
When I graduated from social work school, I thought the hardest part was behind me. I quickly learned that graduation was only the beginning. What came next was a world of licensure applications, supervision requirements, licensing exams, workplace challenges, and professional decisions that no one had fully prepared me to navigate. Our Way to Licensing was written for the conversations I wish I had been part of earlier in my career.
Drawing from my own experiences, as well as the experiences of clinicians from across the behavioral health field, this book offers practical guidance for navigating the journey from graduate school to professional licensure. It explores the realities of supervision, the application process, licensing exams, workplace culture, and the emotional challenges that often accompany professional growth.
